Development in the global space market could lead to 100,000 of technology and engineer jobs UK, it has been claimed. According to UK Space, this includes broad opportunities including network engineering jobs and careers in software development.

In addition, more engineering jobs will be required to develop the IT infrastructure and to provide technical support. The chairman of UK space, Richard Peckham commented:

“When we talk about space we talk about quite a broad portfolio … a lot of what we’re calling space is enabled through the infrastructure, but we don’t really think of these as space jobs. For instance, direct to home broadcasting, GPS communications, building satnav and things like this. So a lot of the jobs are really based within the electronics, software and IT industry.”

It is figured out that the global space market will be worth as much as £400 billion by 2030 and the UK space market has announced plans to work towards catching 10% of that market.
