Divorce On Phone Or Through Text Messages

The Muslim Ummah (Nation) seriously needs Islamic education, for that matter they can use different mediums such as internet etc. People can learn Quran online if we use these mediums properly. This is how awareness can be created in people and they can have grip over different Islamic Masail (problems).

Divorce is a very sensitive issue, it is Halal but Allah (SWT) doesn’t like it.  It is so sensitive that if someone gives divorce to his wife over phone or gives a text message to his wife regarding divorce; it will be considered as divorce.

According to Hanafi School of thought, if a man gives divorce to his wife in such a way that he says it three times : “I give you divorce” in one occasion, it will be considered as divorce. According to some scholars no matter how many times you say “I give you divorce”, it is counted as one divorce.

No matter what school of thought one is following, one should give himself a thought process before giving divorce. Allah Ta’ala says in the Quran: “O you who believe! When you marry believing women, and then divorce them before you have sexual intercourse with them, no ‘Iddah [divorce prescribed period] have you to count in respect of them”.
