Published by cyberdesignz | Filed under Uncategorized

Whenever you find yourself keeping up with your payments on credit cards, always try to resolve it. As it’s very difficult, dealing with the debt collector as it was for credit card debt. Many people simply ignore the problem and avoid dealing with the credit card company and they hope that this problem will go away. It never happens of course, the longer you take the worse it gets. If you feel that it’s not easy to negotiate with the credit card company then get a debt counselor to do it on your behalf. Talking to your credit card company is not that difficult as people think it is, so it’s much better to help out yourself on your own.

A stupid question to ask here is when should you talk to your credit card company?  But the answer to this is not as straightforward as you might think it is. It actually depends on what is your objective.

If you feel temporary problem like emergency or unexpected bills and you want their assistance then you should inform them and get agreement with them as soon as possible. Whereas if you think that you fallen into bigger problem and want to close your account to pay a little, then you should wait and do not approach them. After some time, they will forward your account to the collection agency. The time frame is normally 90-120 days.

A question to ask here is, why you need to wait when you are in a bigger problem and contact when it’s emergency or short term load. To know the answer to this question, you need to understand how the credit card companies work. If they found you guilty and not repaying the payments, they will try to hunt you down in the court. This will be a very lengthy process (120-150) days. They simply try to sell your debt on a very small amount to recover their loss. It’s like 5 to 7 cents on one dollar.

Now this is the right time to negotiate with them, as you’d be in the position to offer them a better rate than the debt collectors. Until then, they will never want you to make any deal with them other than full settlement. You should offer a realistic figure while negotiating with them, keeping collectors’ offer in mind.
